Have been watching this thread closely, and some excellent choices by all.
I'm almost embarrased to say that I know nothing 'bout Richard Thompson.
Suggestions from anyone as where to begin?

1.  Pat Metheny
2.  John Abercrombie
3.  Birelli Lagrene- the only guitarist ever, who has been able to
duplicate Django!  Also a gypsy.
4.  Tuck Andress
5.  Ralph Towner

And Jimi must also be a given
