I apologize for using so much bandwidth about sad songs but it's territory
that I know pretty well. :)
"Rosalinda's Eyes" by Billy Joel. Here's why:
'I would do anything to take away her tears
because they're Rosalinda's eyes.'
Expose's song "I'll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me"...... Whoa. Lock up
the kitchen knives, the Jack Daniels, and the hand guns before you play this
one! Sure it's cheese but man, do they wring it out.
"Walkin' In Memphis" by Marc Cohen. This is a cry-for-joy song. It's
about redemption in fellowship and music. Here's a song about a sad guy
with a Jewish name traveling to Memphis, alone in his thoughts. It opens
with the sound of rain as he lands - recreated on a nice big piano. He
says,
'Yeah, I got a first class ticket
but I'm as blue as a boy can be.'
He's lookin for kinship among the ghosts of the music legends in Memphis,
right?
Finally he's invited among the living to a pot luck dinner at a black
church:
'Muriel plays piano
every Friday after (service?)
And they asked me if I would
Do a little number
and i
SANG WITH ALL MY MIGHT.
She said, "Tell me are you a Christian, child?"
I said, "Ma'm, _I_ _AM_ _tonight_." '
Can I get an amen? I said, "Can I get an AMEN? AMEN!"
