I have to admit I feel really depressed about our
upcoming election. On the one hand, we have Jean
Chretien, who has been Prime Minister for, what, six
years now? and who really ought to retire. Maybe he
isn't *that* old, but he has been in politics too
long, is trying to be like Pierre Trudeau, but hasn't
got a hope in hell of really being like him. I really
don't like him but the other choices are: Stockwell
Day of the whatever-the-hell Alliance, a right wing
"Christian" who scares the living daylights out of me
because you don't really know for sure where he's
coming from and to top it off, he's pretty darn
good-looking and athletic and all that and might just
win
on that basis. Other choices? Yikes! Alexa McDonough
of the NDP - I like her but I don't think her party
has a snowball's chance in hell. Likewise everybody
else who's running.
It boils down to a choice between yesterday's man
(Chretien) and the scary Christian right so I guess
I'll be voting for JC just because he's (IMO) the
least of the possible evils with the best chance of
winning.
(Let it hereby be stated that my remarks about Day's
Christian affiliation are not to be construed as
anti-Christian. We're talking fundamentalism here,
not belief in Christ's teachings.)

I'll 'fess up - I often enjoy the njc more than the
jc!

Question - can Joni vote in the US elections? Is she
an American citizen?

There's a whole load of stuff that I'm not terribly
interested in (although that depends on day of week,
the mood I'm in and so on) but I would defend to the
death (well maybe not death, OK?) people's right to
talk about that stuff. If I'm not interested, I just
delete 'em - in fact, sometimes I just select a whole
bunch of stuff with the same title and delete the
whole lot, thereby possibly missing out on some really
good njc, but I've been too busy lately to read every
one. I admit, I never find the top 10, top 5 of
anything does much for me although every now and then
I discover a few new artists or songs I might not
otherwise be aware of. I hate rating things mostly
because ... it depends on the day of week, the mood
I'm in and so on, plus my fear of leaving somebody out
of any such list.
