Deb issued a friendly challenge: I would really like someone to come up with a scenario where people will be able to manipulate the results of a hand recount under the eyes of Democratic AND Republican observers. Well, if I were to try to hack the results, that is if I were eager to commit a felony, I would certianly try to do it before the cops and reviewers got there. I would liquor up a cleaning lady or hire a trusted Bubba and break in, in the middle of the night. I'd make a few dozen well-placed punches and get the hell out of there. Or maybe I'd substitute a whole box of phony ballots in place of the real ones to save time. How hard could it be? Remember the Watergate? (Has anyone heard if the ballots are under guard? I haven't! Maybe they're just sitting on someone's desk.) BTW, I read the statistical analysis of the Palm Beach County returns to which Carlton provided a link. Someone hacked the professor's computer (on Friday!) that held the data and corrupted it with a virus. Don't fool yourself- as the cliche goes, bad things can happen to good people. Lama
