Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let any of you JUDY COLLINS fans on the list
the she will be doing some FREE CONCERTS at several
BORDER'S BOOKS stores around the country to promote her
two new CD's. She'll be here in Ft. Lauderdale at the Sunrise
Blvd Border's, where about 3 years ago I managed to get a
huge mounted poster of the cover of Joni's Complete Poems
and Lyrics book. (A photo of me standing next to it used to be at
JMDL.com. It still might be.) There was a contest for people to
sing Joni songs but there were sadly only 4 contestants. (We
JMDLER's would have really wowed them. At the
time I hadn't played my guitar in about 20 years, so I really wasn't
prepared and was just too nervous to perform.) All four
got a prize (book or CD's) and that poster was the last one chosen.
My husband and I approached the guy who
got it and asked if he really wanted it.
He said he would have preferred to get the book. So right
then and there we bought him the book and traded for the poster.
I shared my excitement in a long post about the evening, at the time.
Anyway, back to Judy....she puts on a really nice show. I actually
saw her for free on another occasion. Some years back when she
wrote her first autobiography she was at the Miami Book Fair. She
performed several songs and answered questions. She sang
"Since You Asked" and "My Father" . Both are songs that definitely
bring a tear to my eye, and they are songs that she wrote. I also
waited on line to have her sign my book and take a photo with her. She was
very gracious to everyone and her eyes are indeed, truly incredible.
I know there will be crowds for Judy's Sunday performance at Borders.
Some months
back they had MELANIE and her family performing. It was mobbed. I had
to share a chair to stand on. She was absolutely
incredible. I wasn't that into her music much when she was popular, but
she can still sing, writes some great songs and plays fantastic guitar.
She's also quite a story teller. She had some new CD's released at
the time as well as a greatest hits CD. She has surprisingly, probably
doubled in size. She's definitely someone to rediscover.
Back to Judy again.
