Ahhh! Another favorite of mine. Pat Conroy. He wrote The Great Santini
which
was made into a wonderful little film starring Robert Duvall. Also
his book The Water is Wide discribes his early days as a teacher, which I
can
empathize with.

This series captivated me shortly after I read the Tolkien trilogy. If you
