Hi Jimmy,

Rid of Me was here when I returned from Thanksgiving and I've just listened to
it for the second time. I am very very glad this is not the first PJ Harvey I've
ever heard. Even with my "fan's" ears, this is rough going. The instruments are
completely overwhelming her voice and it's beyond edgy into downright jagged
sounding, although there are a few songs I like even through the harsh
instrumentation (Rid of Me, Missed, and Dry). My very fine PJ advisor suggests
getting the "demo" cd for the non-Albini production of some of these songs, so
that's what I'll do. It is amazing how different the sound of this is from her
other cds; similar types of songs, same voice, but completely different result.
Listening to this hasn't diminished my fanhood (her other cds are great!!!), but
don't think I'll be listening to this one very often.

As far as the trade goes, though, I'm very happy to have this in my
becoming-complete collection, so for that it's been a succcessful and truly
enjoyable exchange. Thank you.

Debra Shea

NPIMH: PJ Harvey singing "Baby baby ain't it true I'm immortal when I'm with
you" from her new cd.
