hi first the gross part - politics. we just had our local municipal (town council) elections here. everyone was really happy cause things went really smoothly - only 6 people murdered........ (and you thought your politicians are slime) now the music part. suitably inspired by all the raving about hejira ( i was gonna just use the initial, but then i realised youd probably all think im a junky) i went out & bought a copy. the only joni albums ive had up to now were s&l, byt (big yellow taxi - what appears to be a spanish reissue of lotc with dubious sound quality), c&s, blue, ttt, ti, & thotsl. of these, shadows & light was by far my favourite. not any more...... hejira is awesome - its been playing pretty much non stop since last thursday & just seems to get better all the time. i always loved "amelia" - this version is awesome i feel sorry for the other bassplayers on the album. hearing them back to back with jaco makes them sound so ordinary......... i think jaco would make virtually any other bassplayer sound flat - he makes sounds that bass players arent supposed to. actually, i suppose there are other bassplayers that play like him, i just havent heard them. larry carltons lead is inspired. any suggestions where to start if i want to check out his solo work. ive always heard him highly recomended, but somehow havent come across much of his work. perhaps the album should be referred to as jjl (joni, jaco & larry) seeing as "h" is gonna be somewhat misleading. ron
