Mark-
Funny you should mention this. Just the other day I was remembering a time
in Toronto- 15-20 years ago, when I was walking along Yorkville Ave. In
the 60's is was the Canadian Haight Ashbury, and Joni, et al, played
frequently @ the Riverboat coffee house. A tall, slim woman w/slightly
permed hair and amazing angular face- was just sitting on the steps up to a
store, and I almost died! I was convinced it was Joni!! I contemplated
what I should do? What would I say? I mustered up the nerve to approach
her, and the only thing that came out was "Is your name Joni?" Rather
infantile, I suppose. She replied no, and I said something stupid like are
you sure or really?. Anyway, I walked away convinced that it was she, and
to this day, kinda think it really was!

I was taping Linda Ronstadt's 'A Merry Little Christmas' the other
night & decided to put Emmylou's 'Light of the Stable' on the B side.
Linda's cd is just a hair over 45 minutes & Emmylou's only a bit over
30. So to fill in the B side at the end of Emmylou, I created my own
EP preview of Joni's Christmas album. I started with 'Chinese Cafe'
then segued into 'River' and finished up with 'Face Lift'. Haven't
listened to it yet so I don't know how well it flows but in my head
anyway, it sounds great!
I really like Linda's take on 'River'. The orchestration really adds
something, I think. I'm gaining a whole new appreciation of this song
although it's never been one of my favorites.

PS: While walking during my lunch break today I happened to pass by a
woman standing outside a building on a side street, smoking a
cigarette. She had long blonde hair with bangs and appeared to be in
her 50s. I had to stop & look back because there was some
resemblance. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Joni, though. This woman
seemed to have blue-green eyes. Joni's are pretty much pure blue,
aren't they? Those of you who've met her, what do you say?
