Thanks to Santa Bob, I received the latest Joni covers CD on Friday. I've
enjoyed listening to it all weekend, and a big thanks to all who contributed.
My favorites are Acoustic Nuisance "BSN", Michael Holland "A Case of You",
Linda Ronstadt "River" (FANTASTIC), and I forgot that Glen Campbell is really
a good singer. His version of "BSN" is absolutely beautiful IMO. I would
have thought he would have been on the *cheesy* covers, but it's a wonderful
cover. It's too bad his one time ex-love Tanya Tucker (one of my fav's)
didn't put out a Joni song, i.e., "Cold Blue Steel And Sweet Fire".
Of course I've already raved about JMDLer Marcel Deste's cover of "I Think I
Understand" and "Rainy Night House" since I was lucky enough to get his CD at
the Laborday Joni fest, but it was great that Bob put two of his songs on the
covers CD. Gorgeous tunes Marcel (and for those who don't know it, his real
name is Honk Reuter and he's a 63 yr old closet democrat :~D )
I liked Jane Monheit's cover of "Twisted", but if I were gonna include that
Ross/Gray tune, I would have put Bette Midler's version on a covers CD as
well. AND speaking of Bette, she does a great cover of "For Free". Not only
did I get to hear Bette on this covers volume, but Santa Bob sent me a video
of Bette singing "For Free" back in the days when she was performing at the
gay Continental Baths with Barry Manilow playing the piano. What a great
video Bob!!! (and Byron, I hear this is all due to your contribution!! Thanks
a million!!!)
Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
Jimmy
