so for those who were helping me out with the different translations of down
to you, i have an update on the story.

we're back together again, and it's better than before. decided not to give
the lyrics to him right away. after listening to dty for another 50 or so
times and re-reading the lyrics and writing them out and totally becoming an
obsessive freak, i decided to take a chill out approach. i wound up writing
my own words to smooth things over and it worked. but this morning i did
spring dty on him.

i slipped it into the cd player easing in first with a peppy raised on
robbery and then decided to quickly tone down the mood and played dty for
him. he listened intently and even started reading the liner notes. during
the musical bridge, i told him that the song helped me think through him.
it helped me also think thru me and what i am about or can be about. he
started talking about the lyrics and immediately grasped that it wasnt me
saying that "hey, joseph, it's down to you," but more so that i was saying
to myself that it all comes down to me in the end. and yeah i have my flaws
and all, but i am flawless at being me (gosh, i just wrote a hallmark card
line). the song came across very well and he said it was touching. then we
turned on the radio and caught the last verse of britney spears' "stronger".
britney is such a lyrical genius we were both besides ourselves. (just
kidding - don't get yourselves in a tizzy. joni is still my genie in the
bottle.)

michael.
