your questions are so relevant! the survey is based mainly on what the
native speakers ''hear'' themselves say rather than on what I might hear.
what you think rhymes, goes.
i don't want to give any specific examples now because i'm afraid it might
jeopardize the objectiveness of the questionnaire's results. however, i'd
love to discus a couple of points you've raised [the ''abewt/ewt'' issue is
one of my favorite phonetic phenomena in the world!] after the survey. and
i'm so glad you want to participate. i need a lot of canadians from every
possible region. canadian english is appallingly misrepresented in most
surveys.
this project will be a dream come true. you might think i need to get a
life, but the thought/lot question has been on my mind ever since i was
13!!!!!!!
