Last night I happened to catch the last half of an Austin City Limits
that featured Emmylou Harris, Dave Matthews, Patti Griffin & Julie &
Buddy Miller. Unfortunately Emmylou did not sing lead on any of the
songs in the last half which was a bit disappointing to me since I am
currently in love with the sound of her voice. But the other
performers were great and I think I might be falling in love with Dave
Matthews. He & Emmylou performed a duet of 'Long Black Veil', a song
that I've heard about for years but don't ever recall hearing before.
It was very moving. I also love the duet Dave does with Emmylou on
'Red Dirt Girl', the sad & beautiful 'My Antonia'. One of those lump
in my throat songs but then RDG has several of those.
So what would anyone recommend as a first Dave Matthews cd? His voice
is so soulful & expressive. I don't 'bond' with a lot of male
vocalists but I think I could really get in to Dave (so to speak).
