Now _this_ is TV worth watching! America's Public Broadcasting (PBS) begins
airing a special on the history of Jazz on Monday night.

Monday evening's opening episode, entitled "Gumbo", covers the beginnings of
Jazz through 1917 and focuses, naturally, on the center of early Jazz,
Geneva, Switzerland. No, of course that was a joke- it was New Orleans,
Louisiana, USA.

The write-up in my local paper says that in episode 2, next week, Louis
Armstrong (AKA "Pops") is the real star, filling out about 2 hours worth of
the material, one small piece at a time. The film's creator, Ken Burns,
sees Duke Ellington as the greatest composer of the century.

Brace yourself though- Mr. Burns' special will consume 18 and 1/2 hours of
your life. If you can't sit through "Paprika Plains", then "Jazz" ain't for
you.

Take care all,
