I work in the lounge of a Dublin city centre (and that is how you spell centre, folks) hotel. Sunday mornings it's my job to get in there early and clean up the mess from the night before, open the bar and get the day going. this, of course, means that i must put the cd player on!! So, before i went to America last summer i got into the habit of playing my own music- specifically Joni. BSN was a great one for the bar, cos it is along the lines of the music we play generally, kind of. All through october and november i played the following cds: BSN, C&S, Eva Cassidy Time After Time, FTR. in that order. in december i added Jewels christmas album. on occasion people would comment. one man was especially impressed. Tom was his name, a regular he recently moved to Sweden with his band. anyway, yesterday i brought only Hits with me. well, i also had KidA but that wouldnt go down well at all with some of my regulars:-) The album had gotten to Circle Game when a gentleman made the comment "oh, the hippies are back in town i see" it's Joni was my answer. about five minutes later he said "do you know Jonis real name?" he was surprised when i knew, lol! "not too many people know that" he went on to tell me that he loves Dylan. and knows some of Mitchells work. he owns olny C&S and HOSL. both of which he loves. he knows LOTC too. he recommended Blue before he realised that i'm quite the fan and already have most of teh albums. then he talked about Dylan for a while. Jody, if you were there perhaps you could have carried on the conversation with him, but me, all i could do was listen. it's only dylans music that i know! although an english teacher once got me to read a newspaper article about dylan turning 50. it wasnt a flattering piece, but quite funny. i'll stop rambling now. this is teh first person i've met in Ireland that knows Joni, and that was the point i set out to make:-) GARRET
