Sorry if I'm repeating this - after a while I forget what I've posted in the
past.
Shawn is absolutely fantastic live. I've probably seen her 20 times at
least. Maybe more. I used to go to Passim (well known folk club that was
originally Club 47 - and Joni did play there too) to see her. This was years
before her Steady On CD. I do have old live versions of everything on that
CD. In fact, she premiered the song Steady On at a songwriter's workshop at
the Newport Folk Festival. The few of us in the audience were blown away.
(Meanwhile all these hordes of people were just walking by to get into the
seating area.) I did get to meet her briefly there. I'd been introduced to
her at Passim about a year before too. She seemed very shy. If you read the
liner notes of Steady On, you'll see that she mentions WERS and Mary
Carbone. Mary and Bob and Rae Ann Donlon were really instrumental in
launching her career, I think. Mary and I were friends, but I've lost track
of her. She was a DJ at WERS and was the one responsible for my fleeting and
limited 'fame.'
lots of love
Anne
