I understand what you mean -- I totally dismissed HOSL when I first
heard it. I think I bought it in 88 or 89, and this was after my Blue,
C&S, LOTC, DED, and CMIARS obsessions. I just didn't get it at the
time, and it was probably due to "The Jungle Line." Well, actually, it
was more than that -- I didn't like Edith, Shades of Scarlett
Conquering, etc. I was basically stuck on "Don't Interrupt the Sorrow"
and "The Boho Dance" and dismissed the rest. I kept thinking "what the
hell is this?" However, one day, sure enough, I popped it back in and
WHAMMO, I was suddenly in love with "The Jungle Line." I know a bunch
of people here don't care for it, but it's an integral part of the album
for me. Now, or for the past year or so, HOSL has been my fave of all
of Joni's work (DJRD keeps edging up there.....and I NEVER thought I'd
rate anything better than Blue and C&S.... but when I grab some Joni to
listen to, it's usually these two -- and HOSL is, *gasp* far better TO
ME than Hejira -- ok, go ahead, stone me!
Ok, I promise, I'll stop posting -- sorry, a friend brought me over an
extra large Tim Horton's coffee tonight, and I am on some freaky
caffeine rush!
