Based on some of the old TV clips of Joni it seemed like she was rather
circumspect regarding U.S. politics in the early days. I recall she made a
comment on the Dick Cavett show seeming to sort of distance herself (in a
respectful way) from the political controversies of the time such as
Vietnam, in part because she was, first, a Canadian, and she seemed reticent
to expound on U.S. issues at that time. Yet in that same show, she
performed Fiddle and the Drum, an anti-war anthem. I can't recall Joni ever
performing for a U.S. president, but she did participate in the McGovern
(who ran on a primarily anti-war platform) campaign in '72. My feeling is
that although she is Canadian first and always, she is also quite revered in
the U.S., too, and I think that the U.S. considers her as much a national
treasure as do her native Canadians.

On another note, I think the synchronicity of you considering the name Kelly
Dale for a baby daughter to be a kinda "whoa" moment but not creepy! Go for
it!

And you got me going with "Hypnotized," Evian - one of my all time favorite
songs - sigh.... ;-)
