Lama,
Isn't it great making new converts? I get a tremendous kick out of it
myself & I know, too, that guy is going to go bonkers when he sees Jaco
jamming with Pat Methany, Joni, Brecker, Don Alias--you just made his YEAR,
never mind his day.I recently converted my 23-yr. old babysitter, who had
previously been into Britney & the boy bands, but was inundated with Joni for
hours at a time due to my daughter Lindsey's utter devotion to her ( Lindsey
SCREAMS if you try to take Joni off & put on something else, with the
exception of a little Neil Young when she's in the mood) So the babysitter
goes, "I never knew JM did that Janet Jackson song ( Got til It's Gone) !" I
laughed and saw the surprised look on her face when I told her it was the
other way around. After many months of listening to Joni, she told me the
other day she prefers Joni's "newer stuff" to her "older stuff",which made me
very happy, but just about put me into cardiac arrest.Ah, there's hope for the
Gen-X er's yet...
And thank you for that astounding post on the "Jungle Line";HOSL has
always been one of my favorite Joni records of all time( top two) & I must
admit that 25 yrs. ago when I first heard it, I didn't appreciate it's
innovative rhythms the way I came to in later years.I find it absolutely
mesmerizing now, but even after all these years had thought it to be simply a
song about Rousseau's artistic exploration & journey into musical and drug
experimentation( which often goes along with that, even in those days). But
after reading your post, I now see that there's probably much more to this
than I ever realized. You've given me a tremendous amount of food for thought &
I'm going to have fun digesting it! Thanks again-------
Peace,
Megan
