This is OLD NEWS but don't know if it was mentioned before or not.
I just dug this issue out of one of our moving boxes.

Back in November 2000 Brian Blade was on the cover of Jazz Times.
"Dig the NEW BREED
Brian Blade
Jim Black
Nasheet Waits &
Matt Wilson
define the new generation of jazz drummers"
There is a 6 page interview w/pictures inside and mentions of Joni.

First off, on page 10, is the content page with a full pic of Brian Blade and
the contents written over it. The very first is the Brian Blade interview by
Greg Tate, "From stints with Joni Mitchell to Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade
is one of the most versatile drummers on the scene. From his family to his
drum gear, he's also a wide ranging conversationalist."

The interview titled, "BLADE the Sharpest" starts on page 30. Passages
with Joni references:

"He has been first-call drummer for leaders as disparate as Harry Connick
Jr.,
Kenny Garrett, Daniel Lanois, Joni Mitchell and, currently, Wayne Shorter;
his own passions move freely from Laura Nyro to John Coltrane's A Love
Supreme."

The interviewer asks him what was on his turntable when he was in high
school.
"A Love Supreme. Joni Mitchell's Hejira, which a friend gave to me after I'd
just started driving. I learned it all. To this day it reveals something
new."

In 'GEARBOX' he talks about his instrument. "I love what the Zildjian cymbals
do and I like dealing with that family of folks. With Joni I chose to play a
larger
set - bass drum was 24-inch with a 12-inch tom and a 16 inch floor tom - they
were these beautifully crafted Ayotte drums.

In another box on page 37 titled 'recommended cds featuring brian blade"

Kenny Garrett: Pursuance: The Music of John Coltrane
Mark Turner: Ballad Session
Joni Mitchell: Taming the tiger
Elvis Costello & Bill Frisell: The Sweetest Punch: The songs of Costello and
Bacharach
Brad Mehidau: Introducing Brad Mehidau
Joshua Redman: Spirit of the Moment: Live at the Village Vanguard

The interview overall is a great read.
