Kakki had promised us all that the champagne & martini's would be chilled &
waiting! Yes they were, along with lots of good munchies. I walked in the
door & met Phyliss for the first time. Later in the evening Coyote Rick &
his friend arrived so I got to meet him just before we left. And there were
two other friends of Kakki's there too whose names I forget.

Paz had his VG8 & played lots of cool songs, sounding just like Joni played
them on guitar. Nikki & Alison did some songs with Alison's beautiful voice
(she could hit those Joni high notes!)& Nikki's great guitar playing. When
Nikki played the VG8 it was like she had done it before but it was her first
time.

Paz makes it look so easy but it isn't. I tried it out & all I can say is
next time I do it in public, I will practice a little first. It is weird
without the percussiveness of the acoustic guitar that I am so used to.
Steve & Michelle danced to a song, then Steve played some songs on the
dulcimer! Julius & I sang together- what great fun!

Phyliss has a great ear & voice & was singing some back up parts to one of
the songs. I am forgetting specific songs cuz I was burnt toast from not too
much sleep & lots of namming & jammin & music & fun & shmoozing...

Phyliss told me of her incredible Joni encounter in LA & how Joni was so
sweet to her & hugged her as she babbled on! It brought tears to my eyes.

It sounds as if I missed Clark again! The elusive Clark! We had to get back
home at a decent hour so couldn't stay & party on later with everyone...

It was a lot of fun meeting some list names in person. And several of whom
it turns out had corresponded back & forth a bit in private on subjects.
Very cool. And Alison who played half of my cd on the air back when she
lived in SLC!!!!!

Oh, one more cool little thing...on the way back to our car after the show
on Sat afternoon, taking the shuttle bus with lots of other show goers--we
were sitting a row behind & on the other side of the aise from an older,
maybe in his 70's, man & a young guy who was with him. They were talking to
someone two rows in front of us who I couldn't see.

Anyway, they were talking about the PBS Jazz special. They were talking
about Mingus & the young guy said he (the older man) played with Mingus.
Then he said, well he's played with all those guys on the jazz special. We
were really evesdropping now. The older man's name was Jack & he was a
drummer. They talked about Duke Ellington & the younger guy said something
about comparing Duke to someone & Jack chided him saying NO one was like
Duke. The guy they were talking to asked him if he watched any of the show.
He said no, he was too tired to stay up & watch.

Any Jazzophiles know who this man Jack the drummer might be? He was really a
sweet & funny guy. We tried to see if he had a name badge on from the show
but no luck!

OH, and Russ! Thank you for my lovely Joni t shirt! (pink)
