Which is why she should consider something similar to the CSN boxed set -
one of my all-time best and favourite purchases. There are a lot of songs
taken directly from the official album release, but in many other cases,
they've included an "alternate take" of a song, and included notes on why it
wasn't chosen over the official release. For example, Suite: Judy Blue
Eyes. They recorded several versions of this song, but went with the first,
because after a few takes, it (apparently) started to sound too
"structured".

I love this idea - including alternate takes of their most popular songs,
which we otherwise would never get to hear. If Joni did this, I'm sure it
wouldn't detract too much from back-catalogue sales, since people would
probably still want to hear the offiicially released versions. Some of the
CSN tracks on the boxed-set are quite different to what was actually
released, and it's great having the notes on each track which in some cases
give a nice potted history of the development of the song.
