this was a great movie--julius and i really got to
giggling. it's pretty typical coen brothers stuff; if
you like it you like it. bizarre story line, to say
the least, and far and away the best acting job
clooney has ever pulled off. get's his assed kicked by
turturro though, performance-wise.
the music was definitely the highlight of the film for
me. it featured music by the cox family, alison
krauss, emmylou harris, gillian welch, sam bush, jerry
douglas and more. i think i 'll probably buy the
soundtrack, if only for that spunky "man of constant
sorrow" version that clooney pretends to sing.
there's a version of "man of constant sorrow" by peter
rowan that i have always loved. i am not a bluegrass
expert, as julius alledges. i just love the music, and
have been a big fan for many years. just talking about
it makes me miss the BEST public radio station ever,
and the BEST bluegrass show ever--"bluegrass express"
hosted by the old man every sunday from 2 to 5. great
to pull weeds to, wash a car to, sit around drinking
pabst blue ribbon to....
OH MY GOD I'M HOMESICK!!!
love,
alison e.
