<<I thought it was ironic that both these guys wrote songs for the film; Neil's *song* gets picked over Nilsson's... but Nilsson ends up singing Neil's song.>> I may be wrong...from what I recall, "Everybody's Talkin'" wasn't written for Midnight Cowboy specifically. Nilsson was asked to write a song 'like' it, and came up with his song, which I guess Schlesinger or whoever made the call didn't like as good as Neil's song. Sorta like Ray Parker Jr. was asked to write a song 'like' Huey Lewis' "I Want A New Drug" and came up with "Ghostbusters"...it was a little TOO like it, though, and a lawsuit resulted... Harry's song wound up on the brilliant "Harry" record, along with "Morning Glory", probably one of the first records about the homeless. btw...anybody ever heard of a Reprise CD called "Hits & Misses Sampler", (12 tracks). It must be pretty rare, the price tag on it was pretty high ($75 US or so). Bob (I ain't 'fraid o' no ghosts...) NP: Buffalo Tom, "dry land"
