Friends of Spirit,
I've often wondered what the other JMDLers listen to other than Joni.
Anything as religiously? Are the majority of us post hippie baby boomers
like myseI-i-f? (Mysel-i-f the quote from Just Ice - Happiness intro).
I'd be interested to hear what spins on your turntables from time to time. I
tend to stick to the balladeer singer / songwriter genre. Dylan+ADs- Paul Simon+ADs-
RLJ+ADs- James Taylor. When Leslie and I used to play together he was more
Jackson Browne and I was JT. CSNY (who influenced the way I sing / play even
more than Joni)+ADs- Paul more than John and that's saying something. Basically
I just like a good old melody along to which I can strum to my heart's
content. The odd Elton+ADs- Colonel Gadaffi Duck+ADs- you get the drift. I was
flicking through my buskers bibles today and came across a song called It
Must Be Love by Labi Siffre. So I started strumming away and lo and behold
the song sang to me. It made me think of how complex Joni's songs are and
yet I got such a satisfaction buzz from such a simple love ballad. Nothing
more nothing less love is the best. Joan Armatradingesque for some reason.
Joni's the best, sans doute, but in a way she's very elitist, out of reach,
in that Joe Bloggs has difficulty when it comes to hey y'all sing-a-long-a.
A tier or three above most. As I say, I'd be interested to hear what others
listen to.
Have a light-up-your-lazy-blue-eyes weekend.
