At the moment I am listening to Eric Andersen, Memories of the Future,
especially one song 'The Rain Falls down on Amsterdam' which deals with
Neo-Nazism in a very serious and elaborate way. I studied the lyrics with my
grade 12 today trying to understand what the 'beast' is about..and then I
introduced to them Anderson's version(JM's version) of 'The Second Coming' -
Slouching towards Bethlehem' and after that we read the Bible Matthew and and
St.John's Apocalypse finding the beast there. The students said that the '
beast 'is a dangerous metaphor, because men are noit responsible for what the
'beast' does..I think it was a good lesson, but when I wanted the students to
listen to the songs the cd player turned out to be ruined..what a pity, well
I'll see them again on Wednesday with a new player..
Anyway, I like Andersen, perhaps he was inspired by Jm since the song was
