Yes, O.C. Smith's big hit was "Little Green Apples".
There is another connection to Joni. When she picked up
her lifetime achievement award from the National Songwriters
Association a few years ago in LA (and performed 4 songs), O.C.
Smith came on later and performed "Stand By Me". Bluffed his
way through it, didn't know the words! Everybody else in the
house did. Maybe they met at that time.
Also, Joni did a song that I have never heard since. The only
thing I remember about it was a line about Betty Grable's legs.
