Paz,

One of the reasons I love this list is the way people express such different
perspectives on the same subject!

>As far as the kids today "I look like
>my mother did, whe i was those kids age".
Some days this is my anthem.:-\

>on the urban music issue. I live in the burbs, actually in the swamp, >yet
>my kids just tonight, digging in my collection of music, came up >with two
>cd's they wanted to listen to. TRU (a Master P project) and >Fiend (another
>New orleans rapper). The onlyest (a island word) thing >I DON'T understand
>is how these kids identify with the lyrics of this >urban craze. The answer
>and the only one that makes sense is the vibe >or the feel.

I, too, get the feeling that much of that music is pure libido or rage
expressed in a semblance of civility.

>Thinking back I don't remember connecting with the lyrics so much

I *do!* That's why Joni appealed so much to me 'way back in 68! I've been
hooked on her music ever since!

>I don't fight it and I don't make a
>big deal about it, but it sure makes me crazy when one minute I am
>connecting with my brood on a Miles level and then trying to run some >kind
>of interference on a Rappers foul langauge cd.

As I've heard my parents say in the past, "Damn! These kids don't come with
instruction manuals!" As long as we do keep connecting, they will come back
to a more calming way of living.

>P.S. Maybe you SHOULD have tried the brown acid, hell I did!

LOL Don't tell your kids that!

from the perpetually confused parental solidarity front,
Diane
