Well, I agree with everyone on this one.  First, the subjectivists.
Recently, I was blessed witht the sight of both of my 2 year-old nieces
dancing to "moogee" (music).  They seemed to understand rhythmn and doo wop
perfectly well without instruction.  :)

On the other hand, I left the Monkees far behind when I took instruction
from lit classes, downbeat, and Rolling Stone when I was in high school.

Some artists' creations are best appreciated at the cusp between these two
extremes.  I'm certianly a bigger jazz fan for listening to the critics,
seeing the faces of the early players, and hearing their stories while
listening to the music.
