Well, like most of the material on DED, I think the
focus was the current socio-political climate of the
day.  The Hiroshima line isn't so much about the
bombing itself, per se, as it is an admonition and a
warning against the hawkish rhetoric of the Regan
years, when "limited nuclear wars" were pronounced
"winnable" -- for example.

Which, now that I think about it, has an eerie
resonance considering the current US Administration. 
Perhpas we should petition Joni to perform the song
before the Senate Armed Services Committee as it
debates the snipe hunting for an anti-ballistic missle
shield?

Oh God, I've been here long enough to know better than
