Your point is well-taken, Ali. I still haven't warmed to "Man From Mars," partially
because of the realization that it is about a feline and also because I don't feel
it's anywhere near Joni's best work ("big boo hoo"?). I remember the backlash in the
olden daze when people found out that Michael Martin's "Wildfire," heretofore
considered a tender love song, was actually about a horse. Similarly, many were
perplexed to find out that Neil Young's ballad "Long May You Run" is about an old car
he once owned. I actually like that one better based on that understanding.
