First, a very happy birthday wish to you Kate. Girl groups are one of my
little weakness' (which may be obvious from my Destiny's Child post). I
don't think they were well know in the US but the first successful girl
group who played their own instruments were Goldie And The Gingerbreads in
the 1960s. They were from the US but had most of their success in England
touring with The Rolling Stones and The Kinks. Genya Ravan joined Ten Wheel
Drive as singer when the Gingerbreads folded and later made punk records in
the 1970's as a solo artist.
