Facelift may not be the best song Joni's done, but to me it is an IMPORTANT song. Joni
is one of a few of a handful of artists who have remained vital since they started.
She has matured, and her work has reflected that maturity.
She's in a great situation material-wise, I think...her ongoing battle with Myrtle
over what's proper, her re-discovery of Kilauren, being a grandmother, a mother, and a
daughter simultaneously, growing a love relationship in all those directions...I
certainly hope she mines this sorta stuff as opposed to redoing her old songs with
orchestra, but of course I'll accept gratefully whatever she gives.
I'm just glad she's still giving. I think she's in a unique situation as a composer to
write some really original work.
