Indeed Madonna (or Mad Donald, as the locals have taken to calling her) did
pay us a huge compliment by airlifting high society to the North of Scotland
for her nuptials. And welcome it was, to the local economy. No doubt there
will be those who will want to make the trip to see where the event took
place. It's all very moving.

Joan in Scotland. Yes, it would be great to find out where she went while
she was there but I suspect she didn't make it so far north as my neck of
the woods. She, Joan, is born to an Anderson and, as it happens my great
grandparents were Andersons.

As was the way of things at the time in that part of the world, once you
reached the age of twelve or thirteen you had to make your own way in the
world. The girls would go in to service and the boys would join the cattle
and sheep drives to the south of Scotland to where the animals would be
loaded onto ships and taken to the 'colonies'. These lads would work their
passage on the boats and, with the animals, would land in the new worlds
with fortunes to seek and adventures to experience.

Most of these kids were illiterate but would manage to get messages home to
broken hearted mothers by having a local chruch minister write for them.
Indeed in the case of my own family, we established that some had settled in
New York, California and Canada. But the link was lost and many were never
heard from again.

So, the way I figure it, she was on her way to see me, her long lost cousin.
but I was working on the rigs at the time and we missed one
another..............ahaha...

.....as Chris would say, I'll get me coat!
