Hi Rose, trust you to stir that Scots blood in me somewhere :o)

Having a genuine interest in genealogy (my own goes back to 1066 and all
that ) and Scots history.
I've been fascinated about any Joni links with Scotland. Since her very
early days when I realised her maiden name was Anderson, which is a very
common name in Scotland and also a large downtown area in my home town of
Glasgow. But it was really based on no facts at all. ( as it turns out
Joni's dad, and the "Anders' son" name, came from Norway)

It wasn't until the mid 90's that I came upon an interview tape of Joni,
stating that she owed a lot of her songwriting skills to her Irish and
Scottish ancestry. That made me perk up a bit.

Then Brian Hinton's book came out in 96 and explained quite a bit about her
links with Scotland.
It seems that Joni's maternal grandmother, Sadie McKee (nee Henderson), who
Joni dedicated her "Clouds" LP to, had quite an influence on Joni. Joni is
quoted as saying " My maternal grandmother, was a classical trained musician
who came East when the prairies opened up by train. She was Scottish-French
and a poetand musician, but she still kicked the kitchen door off it's
hinges out of her frustration at being trapped in the role of a housewife"

Quite a bit of "fire" in the Joni-genes then ;~) along with some surprising
details.

Joni reckons she "got the bard" from Sadie " who wrote poetry in a thick
Scottish brogue like Robert Burns, about the lifestyles of the French and
Indian traders.

Sleekit cowerin timerous beastie......... Joni ?????? I don't think
:o))))

It also turns out that Sadie's great grandfather had once been employed by
Sir Walter Scott, the Scottish novelist and also a renowned collector of
Scots ballads. It seems Sadie's g-grandfather was given a medal by Sir
Walter for "ploughing the fastest furrows in the shortest time"

All in all it looks like our Joan is a real "earth mother" way back in her
roots. And I'm sure all the French/Irish/Swedish genes have helped too in
that great big melting pot that is North America, making her the extremely
talented individual we all love.

Not to my knowledge. But I do remeber her giving an interview when
recording part of "Chalkmark" at Peter Gabriel's house in England that she
and Larry Klein had taken a short trip to Scotland. I reckon there would be
no shortage of sights to see not least Sir Walter Scott's magnificent home,
Abbotsford, which could well be the <<< heavy drapes and
mustiness. >>>>>>>>>.

Hope that's a help, Willy,,,,,<<<<<<<. she did pay us Scots a braw
