Yes, it is *very* real...and nasty. Arrived home tonight from work to find
my wife's computer had this bizarre spiral pattern filling up the screen.
OK, I'll fix this, I thought. Tried to change the screen properties and
fiddle with the settings but the damn graphic won't go away, and won't let
any other application open on top of it. The process does not show up on a
task list (CTRL-ALT-DEL) so you can't kill it easily.
After a web search (on another computer...one that works!) I found a repair
sequence that is somewhat involved...going in and changing several .dll and
registry files. What a pain.
Asked Shawn how it happened...she got an e-mail attachment from a "trusted
friend" and decided to open it...hers was marked "Snow White and the 7
Dwarfs." Thinking it was a cute little program from a girlfriend, she
opened it up...
