I agree, it's not! ;-) I have always been completely nuts for Southern
Rock, but there just hasn't been enough of it, IMO. You forgot Atlanta
Rhythm Section ;-)

You're just trying to rile me! ;-) Actually, I only really like the first
three with Crosby. The later incarnations of the group, post-Crosby, while
good albums, just don't have the same effect on me. (Now Marcel will get on
me!) Get the remastered "Mr. Tambourine Man" on CD. It has some bonus and
unreleased tracks and you can pick it up for a good price, especially
through the record clubs. It's a masterpiece. The CSN bio by Dave Zimmer
has a great section on Crosby's time in the Byrds. Crosby was a bit too
wild for the conservative McGuinn, Hillman and Clark at the time - wanted to
branch out creatively and get more psychedelic and stuff, plus you know how
Croz was a renegade back then. There was some ego pulling and then the
final straw was when he went off to play with Buffalo Springfield at
Monterey Pop in '67. According to Crosby they all roared up to his house in
their new Porsches and came in and yelled at him that he was fired.
However, they later all laughed about it and Croz did a reunion album with
them in 1973, the one that covers Joni's For Free.
