Paul had his own veiled jab at John: the first song on Ram;
"Too Many People"

Too many people going underground
...too many hungry people losing weight...
[John & Yoko's public fasting for peace]
......that was your first mistake
you took your lucky break and broke it in two
now what can be done for you?
You broke it in two...

There were other assorted barbs in the song, no doubt many
that were "inside".
But Paul also later wrote the touching "Here Today" (from "Tug of
War") after Lennon's death, and happily, although the two never
worked together, they did mend their friendship before Lennon died.
(There IS a disjointed bootlegged jam with Stevie Wonder recorded
during John's LA weekend period-with Paul on drums. This ragged,
tired-sounding late night jam was apparently their only musical meeting
post-Beatles)

One thing that infuriated John was that he really wanted out
of the Beatles, and was persuaded by Paul to keep quiet about
it. Then Paul trumped him by announcing HE was out of the
Beatles, and used the press, as John saw it, to promote his solo
album "McCartney".
Another big factor in the split was that John, George, and Ringo
had been convinced that Allen Klein, who had done alot to
increase the wealth of the Rolling Stones, was the right choice to
sort out the financial problems at Apple. McCartney wanted his
father inlaw, Lee Eastman, whom the others perceived as too
straight, to take the job.
As it turned out, the ruthless Klein made a mess of things, ripped
them off, and caused general havoc that took years to sort out.
The straight guy would have been better, but Klein seduced John
through flattery and John liked the fact that Klein knew his work.
