i'm gonna give this a little thought myself, see what i can  come up with.
i certainly tend to agree with you as regards "it is played of and by and
for "the folk" ", and this would indeed explain, to an extent, the common
use of accoustic instruments like the guitar, and also why the music tends
to seem simple.
you've given me food for thought.
