I was tempted to post this late last night, but decided that it'd be slightly more coherent at a somewhat more reasonable hour. I went to a Steve Poltz's gig last night, at a small Dublin venue called Whelans. I had seen him once before as teh opening act for jewel, at which time he was very impressive so i was expecting a good night. I wasn't let down, in fact, he was superb. I could bore ye'all to death telling every joke he told, retelling the stories behind every song, but i wont! he was chraming, funny, and the audience loved him. keeping matters current, he sang a song he made up after being disinfected at the airports! 'twas very funny, in all fairness! he also did his version of Jewel's hit "you were meant for me", which he co wrote, he told how he remembers telling Jewel she could have that one because it was crap! next thing he knew he was getting six and a half cents in royaltys! surprisingly, as one of the many encores, he did tlc's "waterfalls", which he learned because of his unfatuation with Lisa Lopes! he did a kick-ass rendition of "teh rocky road to dublin" a song i've been trying to learn for years, and just cannot for the life of me remember no matter how hard i try! i guess he was overwhelmed by the audience reaction; he kept saying that he was expecting about eight people, and even then he didnt think they'd respond so positively! i'll just add that i totally recommend you see him if he does play in your area. i bought his album, and am currently acquainting myself with it! i'm a little disappointed because there was one song that he sang that i absolutely loved (well, actually, there were numerous songs that i loved) that isn't on the album. it's possible that it's an old rugburns song, or will be on his next album. problem is, i dont know what he calls the song! of course, i should add that the many of the other songs i loved are on the album. and one question: anyone on the list heard of Steve Poltz?? GARRET
