Jenny,
This solo is astonishing to me. Unlike lots of music, every time I hear it,
it surprises me. It's profoundly bittersweet.
Like McCartney's bass lines on Abbey Road, Metheny is playing way above his
ability. I don't know how that's possible but to me, this solo is the top
of the top.
Even seeing him play it doesn't detract from it. To me, this is
extraordinary stuff. I guess what I'm saying is "me too!".
