On the off-chance we don't get the invite to Joni's you can at least be
comforted that Coyote Rick's Casa Alegre and the Kakkishack are both
free-puffing zones ;-D
There are also a few places in Hollywood and West Hollywood where they bend
the smoking rules. There is some kind of loophole in the local L.A. health
code where if every person in a bar or club either agrees to let someone
light up, or has no objection, then they can smoke inside. It's not totally
legal, but there is some murky area in the code where it is somewhat O.K. if
everyone agrees to it. The moment someone complains, however, it is "lights
out". The places I've been where they do this is Dan Tana's (the Joni
hang-out where she wrote about "p***ing a Tequila the length of the parking
lot"); Les Deux Cafes (coincidently another Joni hang-out) and Johnny Depp's
Viper Room. But since you will also be visiting San Diego, I would suggest
sticking to the rules there. Each city gets to enforce the law in their own
way. While L.A. is lenient, I've read that in San Diego they call the cops
and take to you right to jail!!
