thought our Canadian contingent would enjoy this
special on Bruce Cockburn
from the cbc web site:
Friday March 23rd 9 pm
MOMENT OF TRUTH, an hour-long concert special with
Bruce Cockburn, filmed at Montreal's Spectrum
shot near the conclusion of his world tour "Breakfast
in New Orleans, Dinner in Timbuktu", MOMENT OF TRUTH
is a monument of his talents as both a songwriter and
a musician.
The concert special features such hits as Wondering
Where the Lions Are, If I Had a Rocket Launcher, Last
Night of the World, and Lovers in a Dangerous Time.
<<--watch out for the world debut..okay okay..the
JoniFest debut of this special song which just might
be performed at Ashara's this year!
MOMENT of TRUTH ties in with Bruce Cockburn's
induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame
recently at the Juno awards. His career spans three
decades, 25 albums, 20 gold and platinum records, 11
Juno awards, many international awards and countless
performances around the world.
and now me:
I highly recommend his album Circles in the Stream, a
live CD recorded in April 1977 at Massey Hall in
Toronto, Ontario. I especially love his earlier work.
I remember seeing him on stage, from the second row,
centre in Hamilton Place years ago. Such a humble and
down to earth man. He did a solo gig that night, came
out wearing a flannel shirt, jeans and boots...and he
had some small brass chimes hanging from his guitar.
Whenever he swayed, those little chimes sang in
harmony with him. It was a magical, intimate night.
Sensitivity and passion pours through him like early
morning starbursts of sun light dancing in the
forest. Bruce Cockburn's playing is moving and
brilliant, and often politically driven. He definitely
fits into the 'great guitarists' thread mentioned here
a while ago. Truly another Canadian treasure.
