I used to smoke off & on but I don't anymore & am thankful because I agree
that it is very very addicting. And yes the tobacco companies intend it to
be so.

I think Marianne's post has great merit because by allowing yourself to
smoke but not inhale you might be weaning yourself physiologically from the
addictive additives in the cigs. I don't think it is the tobacco per se that
is so addictive.

I believe that some brands such as American Spirits do not have these
harmful additives. I know when I tried smoking a regular cig after Am
Spirits, it gave me a headache & made me feel nauseous. I guess I am very
lucky cuz my desire to smoke just wanned as I got older, partially I think
because the after effects of feeling yukky eventually outweighed the short
term feelings of pleasure.

The last time I smoked, after taking a puff, I would hold the cigarrette far
away from me cuz I didn't want the smoke all over me!
