it sucks for example that everyone thought prince was
a nutball for changing his name to a symbol, when in
fact it was brilliant strategy to escape the
"shackles" so to speak, of the contract. it's all
clear, now, since the contract expired. it was an
inspired move.
don't forget, too about ani difranco and her
"righteous babe" records. she was motivated more by
artistic freedom, i think, but the end result is the
same. she owns the label, she pays herself and keeps
the money her albums make. which is fairly
substantial, i think.
does anyone know if joni makes any "real" money off
the sale of her paintings? i am thinking not, i dont'
remember anyone mentioning it. i'm just curious.
hasn't she done a couple of art shows in europe?
