Yeah well not "all" the stage door johnnies get the
brush off like that. James Taylor tells a story about
"Got to Spend a Little More Time With You" -- and how
it came to pass that Stevie Wonder sat in for some
harmonica work on the song.

James had cut the original tracks, with a sax solo by,
I believe, David Sandborn. Well JT thought it "just
wasn't working" (poor baby!) ... So he hears Stevie's
in town and drops in backstage with a tape. Stevie
digs the song, and the rest as they say is history.

I thought about what would happen if I tried something
like that, and I think the story would go something
like this:

"Well I'd laid down this synth solo in one section but
I thought it just wasn't working. I heard that Stevie
Wonder was in town and thought his harmonica would
sound really cool. So I dropped in backstage with a
tape of the song. His bodyguards beat me within an
inch of my life, and I came to in the hospital about 4
days later. So, that synth solo's right there on the
song to this day."

Just had to share ... ;-)
