I just took a long drive on business and happened to take TTT with me so I was
isolated and with a great car stereo so i gave it a real good fresh listen and
actually repeated the listen on the return trip. While i could go through the entire
album in detail suffice it to say that the only gripe i have with the album was she
used the same sound on every song. The VG-8 works super on some, great on others but
not all that great on a couple and it distracted me and made all the songs sound more
alike than they needed to sound. I think Havana is a real tour de force and started me
thinking about other such Joni "supernovas" production wise of which i would put
Paprica Plains and some others in there but I also found myself thinking about the
fact that one song would have been so much better with a piano as the major instrument
and another with an acoustic guitar as opposed to the VG-8. I dont know why she
limited her sound to the extent that she did but she definitely did. She al!
!
so got (or tried to get) into so
me very unusual timeing and meter grooves on some of the songs which whether
intentional or not ended up maiing the songs sound very unique such as in Havana, Man
from Mars, and Crazy Cries.
