I agree it's difficult to see it or understand it in retrospect.  Once you 
are awash in the lake, you cannot appreciate the raindrops.
You have to look at what most songs were being written about in the early to 
mid '60s,
then listen to songs like Positively 4th Street, Like A Rolling Stone, A Hard 
Rain's Gonna Fall or some of his others from that period.
