Hi everyone,
I used to be very active on the list and have for the past three years been a
"lurker." I hope everyone does well. This place has made such a difference in
my life. It seems when things were darkest, having other people who loved
Joni's music and could relate to "melancholy that's as natural as these moody
skies today" really helped me get through some tough times.
Well, kids, I have begun my musical career. I've been in the studio for the
past year off and on due to the fact that I wasn't ready to make a full
commitment. I'm still working a regular job, but only until I can finish my
CD and find another way to live until I can sustain myself on musical income
alone. The nice thing is that the "Powers that be" seem to be smiling down on
me. By a strange turn of events which include my brother in Hawaii, and a pie
recipe, my three song demo is on its way into the hands of Quincy Jones! The
category my music best fits into is contemporary jazz, but from what I'm
told, I have a "Steely Dan-ish," "Chaka Kahn-ish," "Sarah Vaugh-ish,"
"Toto-ish" thing going on...go figure!
This group has been so much a part of where I am going now. I've turned my
other bedroom into a studio of sorts, and I have the lithograph picture of
Joni that was past out at the JoniFest in Pittsburgh on my wall. She will
always be the ultimate songstress to me. (Sarah Vaughn coming in a close
second)
I would like to, for as long as I can send my Joni friends a tape copy of the
demo I've completed, (can't afford CD's yet) so that you can share in what
I'm doing...on the house. Email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you would like
one. You guys mean a lot to me and I want to share this with you as much as I
can.
Love,
Sherelle
