Wow Terry, GREAT! Thanks for the kind thoughts and to all of you who sent
them publically and privatly. The kids are fine and I am almost fine. I am
finally going thru the list and trying to catch up. Terry I am SO excited
that you are coming to Joni Fest. I have so much other stuff to tell the
list but don't know where to start. HOW ABOUT HAPPY FUCKING BIRTHDAY TO YOU
as well as Bob Murph the Surph and everyone else I missed whilst I was
absent.
Maybe I should start with som JC as I don't often do, but I read a
quote in Rolling Stone last night that I am not sure anyone of you have seen
yet. It is an article of quotes about Dylan turning 60.

"No one has come close to being as good a writer as Dylan. He has grand
themes, these ccast-of-thousands kind of songs, people running around with
cats on their shoulders, street scenes. He did alot of urban landscapes,
like "Desolation Row," where ther'e so much going on. What do I make of Bob
turning sixty? Because of the youth-cultish nature of our industry,
basically- I think it is very positive thing that someone of another
generation survives. The obvious wish I have for Bob is his own line: "May
you stay forever young". For the creature that creates it's all childs play.

The Springfest in Pensacola was fun as usual. Lots of good music. I had a
band called Josh Joplin on my stage and he was really a nice guy, way
friendly, and wants to be on Jukebox when he ccomes thru New Orleans on
tour. I did not get to catch Poco or Pure Prarie League, but I thought of
Kakki and how she would have been glued to THAT stage. I also missed Willie
Nelson, but could hear him when the music on my own stage died down a bit. I
loves seeing Leslie West and Mountain. Corky Laing was a very nice man as
well and we hung out the next day by my stage listening to the bands. My pal
Rick came up from New Orleans to hang and ended up taking them (he nad
Leslie) back to the hotel. I got a couple of Leslie West picks for my
collection. My old pal Wayne Famous and his band the Producers were on my
stage. He was a real keyboard gear head like me. They sounded great and I
really enjoyed all those 80's songs. Kyle cracked me up when I asked him how
I should introduce the band. He suggested I welecome of them as "80's has
been superstars". Both he and the guitar player have such great voices. The
Knack was pretty cool too. We had Gary Puckett and the Union Gap on our
stage and while he is a great singer, he caught up in some casino driven
show. American Hi Fi were full of energy as well as themselves, but they
sounded good and the kids just loved them (they said fuck alot over the PA,
of course they were popular). BB Mac from England went over like a led
balloon. After a 17 minute set of singing to their own CD (with VOX on the
track) they stormed off stage and into the tour bus to pout. Christian (the
cute blonde one OH! they're all so CUTE what am I saying) apologized to me
and told me that they were tired from a long flight from England and blah
blah. At least he made the effort and the kind gesture as opposed to the
"cute one in the middle" who blamed it all on one of my sound guys. Buddy
Guy closed olut my stage Sunday night and he put on his usual no nonsense
terrific show. He shorted us 30 minutes, but we did not complain cause we
got out early and some of us went and heard Smashmouth for ahwile, before
drinking Pensacola under the table and dreaming or maybe I dreamed Pensacola
drank me under the table or anyways the beach was beautiful the next day and
I am finally starting to feel like I am in my own body again. Best wishes to
eveeryone on the list and I hope you all have a wonderful time in NYC. Iwish
so much that I could be there with you guys, but I have not seen my children
in 3 weeks and I owe them at least a weekend. I am in a deep funk about the
whole thing tho. Everyone take their cell phones and call me alot esp. while
people are playing at Lahm's.

Love to all

Paz
